Android gives you more sound settings than iPhone, but they are spread across different menus depending on the brand. Here are the fixes that make the biggest difference, starting with the quickest.
1. Raise media volume, not ringtone
Press a volume button and tap the three dots or arrow to see all sliders. Raise Media to the top.
2. Turn off the Media volume limiter (Samsung)
Go to Settings → Sounds and vibration → Volume → three dots → Media volume limiter. Turn it off or raise the limit.
3. Turn on Dolby Atmos
Many Samsung, Motorola and Lenovo phones have Dolby Atmos in sound settings. It makes speech and music fuller and often louder. Try the Auto or Music profile.
4. Try Adapt Sound or Sound Quality and Effects
Samsung’s Adapt Sound tunes the sound to your hearing. Other brands have an equalizer; lift the 1 kHz to 4 kHz bands for clearer, louder voices.
5. Check Absolute Bluetooth volume
In Developer options, Disable absolute volume can fix Bluetooth headphones that stay too quiet. Only change this if you know your way around developer settings.
6. Remove the case and check the grille
A case lip can cover the speaker. Lint in the grille muffles everything. Brush it gently, then run our Dust Cleaner.
7. Get water out
If it sounds muffled after rain or a spill, run the Android Water Eject. Its Vibrate + Tone mode shakes out the last drops.
8. Clean the earpiece for calls
Quiet calls point to a blocked top speaker. Use the Ear Speaker Cleaner.
9. Restart in Safe Mode
If a third-party app is lowering volume, Safe Mode will show it. If sound is normal there, uninstall recently added volume or equalizer apps.
10. Boost the quiet file itself
When only one video, voice note or lecture is quiet, use the Volume Booster. It raises the file’s level and stops distortion with a limiter.

|---|---|
| Everything quiet | Media limiter, Dolby Atmos, clean grille |

Common questions
Are volume booster apps safe?
Many push the speaker beyond its limits and can cause distortion or damage. Clean the speaker and use built-in settings first.
How do I know if my speaker is damaged?
Play a sweep with the Frequency Range Test. Constant buzzing at every frequency suggests damage; read dust vs blown speaker.
