How to Fix Speaker Problems on Android Phones

Android phones differ by brand, but speaker problems usually come from the same few causes. These steps work on Samsung, Pixel, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo and Realme.

    Step 1: Quick checks

    • Turn off Do Not Disturb
    • Disconnect Bluetooth
    • Raise media volume while audio plays
    • Restart the phone

    Step 2: Safe Mode test

Booting into Safe Mode turns off downloaded apps. If sound works there, an app is causing the problem. Uninstall recently added audio or booster apps.

    Step 3: Clean the speaker

Run Water Eject or the Dust Cleaner, then brush the grille gently. On Android, try the Vibrate + Tone mode on our homepage.

    Step 4: Check sound effects

Turn off or reset equalizers like Dolby Atmos, Adapt Sound or brand audio effects.

    Step 5: Update software

Install system and app updates. Audio bugs are often fixed in updates.

    Step 6: Test hardware

Use the Speaker Test and Tone Generator to check each speaker. Many brands also have a built-in diagnostics app; Samsung Members includes phone diagnostics.

    Step 7: Reset settings

As a last software step, reset all settings or factory reset after backing up.

    FAQ

Why does my Android speaker work in some apps only?

The app may use its own audio settings or be routing sound to Bluetooth. Check the app’s settings and clear its cache.

  • How to Get Water Out of a Samsung Galaxy Speaker

How to Get Water Out of a Samsung Galaxy Speaker

Galaxy phones are water resistant, but water can still sit in the speaker grille and muffle sound. Here is how to clear it safely on Galaxy S, A and Z models.

    Quick fix

Wipe the phone, turn the volume up, hold it with the bottom speaker facing down, and run our Water Eject tone 2 to 3 times. Then let the phone air-dry.

    Step-by-step

    1. Dry the outside with a soft, lint-free cloth.
    2. Remove the case. Water often gets trapped between the case and the phone.
    3. Gently shake the phone a few times with the speaker facing down.
    4. Open this site in Chrome or Samsung Internet and run Water Eject at full volume.
    5. Try the Vibrate + Tone mode on the homepage. Most Galaxy phones support browser vibration.
    6. Leave the phone in a dry, ventilated place for an hour.

    “Moisture detected” warning

Galaxy phones stop cable charging when they sense water in the USB-C port. This protects the phone. Do not force a cable in. Shake the port side gently, wipe it, and wait until the warning clears. Many Galaxy models still allow wireless charging during this time; check your model’s manual.

    Galaxy models with stereo speakers

Most recent Galaxy S, Z and many A models use the earpiece as a second speaker. If the top sounds muffled too, run the Ear Speaker Cleaner.

    What not to do

    • Do not use a hair dryer on high heat
    • Do not put the phone in rice
    • Do not poke the grille with pins

    FAQ

    Is my Galaxy waterproof?

Galaxy phones with an IP68 rating are water resistant, not waterproof. Resistance can weaken over time and does not cover salt water or high pressure.

Is there a built-in water eject on Samsung?

No. Samsung phones do not include one, which is why a browser tool is handy.
