Bluetooth Latency Test: Measure Audio Delay

See how many milliseconds your Bluetooth speaker, headphones or earbuds lag behind the picture.

How to use it

Three quick steps.

Connect your device

Pair the Bluetooth speaker, headphones or earbuds you want to test.

Start and watch

A circle flashes and a click plays every second.

Slide until in sync

Move the slider until the flash and click happen together. That value is your delay.

Why audio delay matters

Bluetooth has to compress, send and decode sound, which adds delay. Under about 100 ms most people will not notice it in videos. In games, calls and music apps where you tap along, a delay over 150 ms feels off.

What is a good result?

DelayExperience
Under 40 msExcellent, like wired
40 to 100 msGood for video and music
100 to 200 msNoticeable in games and lip sync
Over 200 msHigh: fix it with the tips below

How to reduce Bluetooth delay

  • Turn on your phone’s game or low-latency mode if it has one
  • Use a codec with lower delay (aptX Low Latency, LC3 or AAC) if both devices support it
  • Keep the phone close, with no walls or pockets in the way
  • Turn off Wi-Fi hotspots and other Bluetooth devices you are not using
  • Forget the device and pair it again if delay suddenly got worse
  • Most video apps sync audio themselves; if lips look off only in one app, check that app’s audio delay setting

Questions people ask

Is this result exact?

It depends on your eyes and ears, so expect about Β±20 ms. Repeat it two or three times and take the middle value.

Why does wired sound still show a small delay?

Every device has a little processing delay. Use the wired result as your baseline.

Can I use it for speakers too?

Yes. It works with any Bluetooth speaker, soundbar, headphones or car audio.

Do AirPods have audio delay?

Yes, usually around 100 to 200 ms. iPhone videos sync audio automatically, so you mostly notice it in games.

Does a Bluetooth version change the delay?

Newer versions can help, but the codec and the device matter more than the version number.

Why is my Bluetooth delay worse on a laptop?

Laptops often use a basic codec. Updating Bluetooth drivers or using the maker’s app can lower the delay.
