Ear Speaker Cleaner for Calls That Sound Quiet
Gentle tones made for the small earpiece speaker at the top of your phone.
How to use it
Three quick steps.
Open this page on speaker
Most phones play web audio through the bottom speaker, so hold the top of the phone near your laptop or second speaker playing the tone.
Run the Ear mode
The tone glides between 300 and 700 Hz at a softer level.
Clean the mesh
Wipe the earpiece grille with a dry, soft brush.
Why the earpiece gets blocked
The earpiece touches your face, ear and hair many times a day. Skin oil and makeup mix with dust and form a thin layer over the mesh. Callers then sound quiet or crackly.
Important: earpiece vs. loudspeaker
Many phones send browser audio to the bottom speaker only, not the earpiece. If your phone uses both speakers for stereo (most recent iPhones and Galaxy phones do), the earpiece will play the tone too. Otherwise, gentle brushing is the most effective fix.
Quick cleaning routine
- Turn the phone off.
- Brush the earpiece mesh with a soft, dry toothbrush.
- Lift remaining dirt with painter’s tape.
- Wipe the area with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol, never dripping.
Questions people ask
Why do callers sound muffled only on calls?
Calls use the earpiece, while music uses the bottom speaker. A dirty earpiece mesh is the most common cause.
Is alcohol safe?
A cloth slightly dampened with 70% isopropyl alcohol is generally safe on the outside of the mesh. Never pour liquid into it.
What if it is still quiet?
Check that call volume is up, remove screen protectors that cover the earpiece, and restart the phone.
