Earbuds Cleaner: Get Water & Dust Out of AirPods and Earbuds

Play cleaning tones through one earbud or both. Works with AirPods, Galaxy Buds, Pixel Buds and any Bluetooth or wired earbuds.

How to use it

Three quick steps.

Take them out of your ears

Never run cleaning tones while wearing earbuds. Connect them and lay them mesh-down on a dry cloth.

Pick the side and mode

Choose Water or Dust & Wax, then Left, Right or Both. Clean the bud that sounds muffled.

Run, then test

Run 30 seconds, play some music, and repeat up to 3 times if it still sounds dull.

When should you use the earbuds cleaner?

Use it when one earbud sounds quieter, muffled or crackly after rain, sweat, a shower or a trip through the washing machine. Water sitting on the speaker mesh blocks sound. A low tone makes the tiny driver move, and that movement helps push droplets out through the mesh.

Safety first

  • Never wear the earbuds while cleaning. The tones are loud and low; they are made for the speaker, not your ears.
  • Do not charge wet earbuds or put them in a wet case. Dry them for a few hours first.
  • Do not push pins, needles or cotton swabs into the mesh. Use a soft, dry toothbrush for wax.
  • If one bud is still quiet after drying and cleaning, check the balance slider in your phone’s accessibility settings before assuming it is broken.

Earbuds still sound bad?

Wax buildup is the most common cause of a quiet earbud, and sound alone cannot remove sticky wax. Gently brush the mesh with a dry, soft brush, then run Dust & Wax mode once more. Test each side with our Left & Right Speaker Test.

Questions people ask

Is it safe for AirPods?

Yes, at the default volume with the earbuds out of your ears. The tones are normal audio frequencies. Stop if you hear harsh rattling.

Can I clean just one earbud?

Yes. Pick Left bud or Right bud and the sound plays only on that side.

Will it remove earwax?

It can shake loose dry flakes. Sticky wax needs gentle brushing with a soft, dry brush.

Do I need to unpair my earbuds?

No. Connect them as normal, take them out of your ears and press start.

Does it work with Galaxy Buds and Pixel Buds?

Yes. It works with any Bluetooth or wired earbuds that play sound from your phone or computer.

How do I know which earbud is blocked?

Run our Headphone Test. It plays sound in each ear separately so you can hear which side is quiet.

Can I put wet AirPods in the charging case?

No. Dry them for a few hours first. Moisture in the case can damage the charging contacts.
