Left & Right Speaker Test
Check that each speaker works, that stereo is not swapped, and that your speakers are in phase.
How to use it
Three quick steps.
Connect your speakers
Phone, laptop, headphones or a home stereo all work.
Tap Left, Right, Both
Each sound should come only from the side you pick.
Run the phase check
In-phase should sound solid; out-of-phase should sound thin.
What this test tells you
- One side silent: the speaker, cable or balance setting may be the problem
- Sides swapped: left and right cables are reversed
- Out-of-phase sounds fuller than in-phase: one speaker’s + and − wires are reversed
Check your balance setting first
On iPhone, go to Settings › Accessibility › Audio & Visual › Balance. On Android, look under Accessibility › Audio adjustment. On Windows and Mac, check the sound output balance.
Questions people ask
Does my phone have stereo speakers?
Most recent iPhones and many Android phones use the earpiece and bottom speaker as a stereo pair. Hold the phone sideways to hear it.
Why is one side quieter?
Dust in one grille, a balance setting, or a weaker speaker. Clean it, check balance, then retest.
Can I test headphones?
Yes. The test works the same with wired or Bluetooth headphones.
